I have not the quick filter in the toolbar of synaptic.

I follow this instruction (http://askubuntu.com...ic-ubuntu-16-04), but nothing!

How can I do to have the this quick filter?

A big thank you to everyone who contributes to Bodhi Linux

Installing the suggested package should do the trick.

I have tried the method here. "update-apt-xapian-index" ends with Error message.

Yea - those directions don't seem to work here.

Not sure off hand. Both of these are upstream Ubuntu packages that we do not maintain. Please file bug reports with the Ubuntu package maintainers if you care about this.

There is an open bug here about the lack of quick search -> https://bugs.launchp...ic/ bug/1569156

Ok, this is functionality I use. Took a quick look at it this morning and now know where the problem lies. Sadly have to leave now so will look for a fix latter  today ... i hope. I am 98% sure I know how to fix this. More info latter ...

As usual this turned into a bigger task than anticipated. But the short version of the story is that the problem was caused by an improper control file in bodhibuilder_2.2.1_all.deb combined with the fact that the apt-xapian-index program does not do any sanity tests on input. It assumes there are no bad control files in the repos, a safe assumption perhaps for a larger distro with proper help. But from a programming standpoint one should NEVER assume input is valid. But I am not blaming the devs of apt-xapian-index, stuff in our repos should be properly built.

Anyways to fix this issue, assuming synaptic and apt-xapian-index are installed:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade
sudo update-apt-xapian-index -vf
