I become interested in origing of lightdm-gtk package on my system and discovered the whole bunch of odd and (as it seems to me) unnecessary packages:

  lubuntu-default-session
  bodhi-lightdm-theme
  ubuntu-mate-lightdm-theme
  ubuntu-mate-desktop
  ubuntu-mate-core
  ubuntu-mate-cloudtop
  lubuntu-core
  xubuntu-desktop
  xubuntu-default-settings
  xubuntu-core
  ubuntustudio-lightdm-theme
  ubuntustudio-desktop-core
  ubuntustudio-desktop
  ubuntustudio-default-settings
  ubuntu-mate-lightdm-theme
  ubuntu-mate-desktop
  ubuntu-mate-core
  ubuntu-mate-cloudtop
  mythbuntu-lightdm-theme
  lxgames-default-session
  lubuntu-nexus7-default-session
  lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings
  lubuntu-core

Why do we need those packages if we use Enlightenment? Can smb explain me?

I wanna purge them away, because I usually log in via xrdp and don't need those display managers and themes.

A big thank you to everyone who contributes to Bodhi Linux

Hmm, I don't know what you used to get that list. It seems to me that those are packages that depend on lightdm (aka as Reverse Depends)  and not the list of packages lightdm depends on. Only two of those packages are installed on a default bodhi-linux, the bodhi-lightdm-theme and lightdm-gtk-greeter-settings.

Enjoy,

Charles

Exactly so. I wondered myself why the hell I need those lightdm if I don't use display managers? I did

apt-cache rdepends lightdm-gtk-greeter

So I can get rid of all this stuff?

As stated in the above post:

All others are not!

I would leave them as they hardly take space and you may need to login through lightdm one day.

Enjoy,

Charles

PS. Next time you need details on a specific package use

apt-cache showpkg packagename

It is quite complete and states Revers Depends and dependencies in a clear way.

Thanks, bud! You're absolutely right, none of them existed on my system.
