You've picked an amazing group this week, Girlfriend - as I start this, I still don't know which one I'm going to pick at the end. All of them are simply spectacular!
Micah, that's a simply wonderful desktop. I love the background - that effect is created with something called a Lensbaby, incidentally. It allows you to focus the depth-of-field, making some things sharp and others blurry in a way our eyes aren't used to seeing. But in addition, there's a lot of cool desktop stuff. Nice use of an unusual clock and a cool icon set. But the subtlety of making the calendar's rings appear to hook to the bottom of the virtual desktops is quite arresting - and at first you're not quite sure just why. That in combination with the depth-of-field trick in the background really makes this jump out.
Charles, the sunburst hidden behind the clock/calendar is a great effect! I realize you did it just for the screenshot, but for me it works. And you too have a nice and functional desktop. I tend to be partial to the darker themes, but I really like the way you've brightened it up with colors and arranged things in a way that leaves the center clear for work.
Agust, I loved this one the first time I saw it and it continues to amaze me. As usual, it's the little things which make it pop - the way the colors work together, the texture on the floor, the way the lights are a little uneven, the clock on the baseboard of the entertainment center. Does the clock replicate in the TV images? Or is that clock a static image itself?
Dick, yours is the simplest of this week's selections; you've picked from a few standard feature groups. But you have really chosen WELL. I love that Japan desktop and I like your choice of icons - heck, you've even got an Angry Birds icon! And as with other offerings this week, I like the way you've arranged things into a useful and beautiful design. I like the dual sweep memory gadget too - I'm going to look for that one myself!
LKJ, there's a good reason why your desktops show up here so often and this is a fine example of it. Simple and elegant, you've drawn a fascinating tableau of lines and curves. And the best part is that it all works together! The lines of the background exactly bisecting the circular iBar icons, the way the clock appears to be a part of the background design, and though I support the Bodhi branding concept, I really like the font you used. It's simply wonderful!
You know something, I STILL don't know which I'm going to vote for. Like Brandon, I'm going to come back later and try again. Every single one of these is a winner tonight.
