why buy an ARM netbook when you can get an Intel Atom N455 for the same price?

Battery life? The Genesi has the same screen size as my Asus T101MT and does all the same things (minus the touch screen), but weighs much less, throws off far less heat and gets much better battery life.

I'll be putting together a formal review of the ins and outs of the hardware over the holidays. Needless to say though there is a demand for such hardware.

I agree I would never have bought the Asus netbook if I had an ARM option. I need performance but with good battery life. I am not unhappy with the Asus, but as jeff pointed out it throws out less heat than a full X86 processor.

The smartbook I have has 16gigs internal storage, SD card expansion and two USB ports.

I'll shot a short demo video later this week. Bodhi runs a bit slow from my low grade SD card (its just a little bit faster than the Ubuntu install to the SDD though haha). I'm still working to get my install moved from the SD card to the internal memory properly though. Once I get this process automated I'll be releasing the installer for others to use. I'm coming into my finals for the next 13 days or so, so expect more work on this come the holidays

I'm still (sporadically) futzing with the Debian install instructions on the Tosh AC100 smartbooks..... Am trying to create a working plan to do it from the mixture of (variously dated) information on offer. The Ubuntu info for an AC100 installation looks cleaner, so it may help in working with Debian, but not near a result yet.The AC100 has a pretty slow eMMC internally, but it looks like an SD card can be a good bit faster if of the correct 'class'. We only have Class 4 and Class 10 SD cards available, but I'm told that Class 6 should max out the SD I/O, so no need for the costly Class 10, probably..
I have to finish our bushfire season preparations first. Oh yes, and do a viewable video of the ancient P3 touchscrreen working well in Bodhi. It's all been too dark, out of focus and/or camera-shake so far.

PS - reason for posting (D'oh!) is that we've almost decided to order a Genesi nettop for the new year. Depends on finances after the festive season.

Wow! Thats only a foo more daze! After futzing with Win 7 Stripped-2-da-Bone Edition on my daughters Acer Netbook,
she would love one of the Genesi units with E17!

Sweet... have you tried it with the smarttop as well? I am seriously considering buying one to put it into service as an HTPC....

The same installer should work I believe on both units (don't quote me on that though) at the very least it should take minor alterations to get the smartbook installer to work on the smart top (once I have it working that is).
