A few years ago my boss (who, by the way, hates computers) bought a Dell Vostro after reading and believing some campaign stating the following:

“Dell Vostro. Great for mobile professionals who want worry-free productivity & connectivity”

The thing came pre-installed with Win-Vista. Apart from the thing being a slug, it ran great for about a week before loosing Wi-Fi; insisting that no wireless NIC existed despite the fact that it detected the NIC just fine.
In the end the fastest (several hours), least painful remedy was a reinstall after which the NIC was accepted and Wi-Fi restored. Since then I've had to "recover"/reinstall the thing numerous times.
Connectivity in general is below average and definitely not “worry-free”, battery-time is mediocre, it is painfully slow in all that is asked of it. Basically it's a horrible machine.

About two weeks ago she (the boss) came into my office and declared that Wi-Fi was out on her laptop AGAIN and that it was "due for the bin"! This time, pointing to my own screen, I asked her if she would be willing to try something else.
...After asking her "exactly what do you use on your computer" I installed Bodhi with only what she needs, LibreOffice, Adobe PDF, Thunderbird, Cups etc. Then showed her the basics of how to use/navigate her new system.
Funny thing, the Vostro is no longer a slug, She was literally shocked at how fast her old tired computer booted up and ran applications.

Today she came back into my office, laptop in her hands. “No joy”? I asked, while thinking to myself that she probably couldn't get used to the OS differences. “No joy”! She says.
“I want you to wipe all the crap off of this”; and hands me... her private laptop, wanting me to install “the same wonderful windows version” I put on her work laptop. She says it is now “a joy to work on”.

Just thought I'd share :)

Cheers! It's the Domino Effect!

You got her hooked, then she shows other people and they install it, and they show other people and so on until...it's a Bodhi World!

Ooh, I remember trying to convert a Dell Vostro owner once, sadly she was let down by the WiFi not working OOTB (yes, I offered to fix it - to which she responded: "Hey, If I'm gonna use this thing I'll have to learn it anyhow, if you do it for me I could aswell use Windows".) I never found out if she let the Linux partition stay or if she removed it... Anywho.. I assume your boss has a Broadcom WiFi card, and I've seen a tremendous improvement in their open source drivers lately! They work _very good_ OOTB on both my HP Mini 210 and my mothers' Dell Latitude D620 with the newer kernels.

Well, enough random rambling by me, I'm glad it wortked out well for you and your boss - and for the record, we love hearing these stories! ;)

Actually a Dell Wireless 1397 which I assume is an Intel thingumy rather than Broadcom (don't know for sure).

@ Bob E
One can only hope, although I can't see my boss discussing or showing anything computer related with anyone. Even though she "likes" her "New computer", she really is not a computerphile at heart. Then again who knows, today I deleted W7P on her personal (I bet less than 6 months old) HP ELITEBOOK 8560P in favour of Bodhi 1.3.0. at her request.

 Today I got the first ever support issue on boss' Vostro since installing Bodhi on it last December (record on that computer). She was real upset since; "its been running so well and I've really come to like it".

Turns out she had inadvertently and unnoticed kicked the power cord out of the psu & run the battery down. Great face when she found out her "Windows" wasn't broken

Does she know it's not windows? I'd hate to see a 'moment of truth' confrontation a la 'Luke, I am your father!' when she realizes it's Linux, after all... Break it to her gently and offer an appletini or something to cushion the blow. :)
