Even though all of em are impressive, can't figure out why people prefer/vote desktops that are hardly usable for what they are... which is a desktop. Still images and colors always look good but I wouldn't imagine myself using/working on anything else than Dumas or Turgid's which are both artistic and most of all usable.

My 2c

My 2c

And you say that first screenshot is not usable desktop?
1. Top Shelf with clock, pager and systray. Always on top, systray has to by, visible for my, mainly because of skype and gmail. It is in center so maximized windows do not suffer from it any way, because controls (close, min, max) are in right, and title with icon on left. That is perfect placing, and is really usable, which also saves some space.
2. Right bar with applications launchers, this one is auto-hide, and mostly even not used. It does not get in a way, because most of times not visible. Maybe you are "angry" of those blending grey/dark colors. But they are really easy to recognize which icon is for which software.
3. Bottom center, auto-hide opened application holder. If there is no app opened, it is not there. Why does everyone like one static shelf with all crap available, which most of them not usable at all, also these shelf's takes some screen space (that is very important factory on laptops, for example 15.6 screen sized, where having a shelf on top or bottom screen makes EVERYTHING smaller, solution auto-hide, or shelf's on left or right screen sides), on my screenshot EVERYTHING can by crosses with other opened window.
4. Right bottom shelf, auto-hide (so could by used when something is full-screen opened), with some controls. How much do you use start gadget, when you can simply click on desktop? Made it auto-hide so it can by accessed that very rare times when desktop click is not an option. Cpu-freq, light bulb, those settings are one-time changed for my, and stays same all the time. Volume gadget can by changed via keyboard. So as I tried to say, all crap which is needed, but in very rare times are in this auto-hide shelf.

Tried to thought what could also get in a way for you. Places gadget, simply fitted, and also saves one click compered to start menu (click for start menu, and click for open) if needed to access some partition.
Conky - I like to see my system load, but do not want to see it always, so do not like to have gadgets which are all the time visible, do you? Oh let's watch you-tube, nice now half of the time look at my static shelf, which has ram and cpu usage gadgets.

It is your choose how your desktop looks, so do not judge us for how we like that it looks.

wow wow wow, hold your horses Vaidotas, yours is impressive too (as I said) and might be equaly usable. Specialy the geometric placement of the conky is admirable... I'm just not that into wallpapers with chicas artistically... as I said... my 2c

Stabak, this is a contest of looks, not usability. Everyone likes something else and who ever said every one of these desktops is used on a regular basis? Judging by the rate some people post desktops here, I know for a fact that [some of them/they] are created just for the fun of it.

I do like the "chica" on Viadota's desktop, it fits the overall look of it quite well. You may disagree, and that's fine. We're all entitled to our own opinion (thank god).

A usability contest sounds like an excellent idea :P The fact is people like to 'pimp' stuff whether it be their posessions, their own appearance etc. If cars were defined only by usability, they'd all be identical, as would clothes etc etc. I can't see how any of the desks pose a problem for usage with Bodhi personally. Wallpapers are a personal thing and that's the key point, individuality.
Think of this sentence as a deep and meaningful saying, or an extremely witty phrase.

Agree that it is interesting idea, but how it could by measured? For example always visible shelf can by seen as usability for quick access, but auto-hide shelf as saving desktop space, they are both usability.

usuability is a soggetive parameter as the beautiful.
A notebook has a different usability respect a desktop.
And a lots of people use more mouse than the keyboard...
so who can be an absolutely most usable desktop?
We are forced to use the "vox populi - vox dei" method to understand the most usuable desktop, so the votation :D
maybe with a video we can show better all the features.

IMHO I've always posted on DotW usuable desktop, because is the desktop that I've current used. Beautiful FOR ME means also usability ;) but is my opinion, of course :D

Just for the record, by usability I meant simple ergonomy rules which apply on Desktops, not that about shelves and availability of resources because the latter have to be documented with videos and screen capturing and as Duma said depends on the screen resolution and space and preferences (laptops, desktops, tablets, left handed people etc).

For example a wallpaper to be usable and eye-friendly has to be 2-3 colors max and to equalize the contrast of white paper with black characters (shades of same colour are preferable than more colours). That's a fact, not my opinion. By this rule a light grey or a dark blue is the most used base color to prevent eye fatigue... etc. Wallpapers with a mixture of colors, shapes and photos even though look artistic and goodlookin as a screenshot (for example week31 and vaidotas with the tiger), they still can't be usable. That's all and didn't mean to disrespect anyones work or preferences....
