Hey all,

I've been using live images to experiment with Bodhi on a little laptop. I'll be installing it to a new desktop machine when 2.0 is stable.

As an experiment, I installed e17 from a different PPA (https://launchpad.ne...lightenment-svn) on top of my recent Ubuntu Minimal 12.04 install (on my main machine.)

I installed elsa, along with the rest of e17 -- partly because lightdm was just so difficult to make look good. But when I booted, no choices for sessions, nor could I even type in the text boxes.

This is not a Bodhi PPA, nor is there any association with what's happening here as far as I know. I'm not expecting support on this problem, just asking for information...

Will Bodhi use elsa? It's beautiful, far, far better looking than anything else I've ever tried at login. I'm hoping so.

Aloha,

Is the elsa package from the PPA functional? If so I might consider it. The last time we tried elsa from the E SVN it was far from stable/consistent across all systems.

Well, it came up in the right place, and all the widgets worked. I did a dpkg-reconfigure on lightdm to get into the desktop, but I didn't think to do a dpkg-reconfigure on elsa and retry. I'll give that a go-round soon.

Only issues were that no sessions were listed (should have had e and xfce), and I couldn't type into the username field. I'd guess that there's some configuring to do.

It did allow me to shutdown and to reboot. So, I'm not exactly sure what the problem might be.

Looks fantastic.

EDIT: did a reconfigure, changed the option re: xdg to system -- gave me sessions, but crashed out when I selected XFCE. Still feels a bit like configuration, could be bugs... lightdm doesn't show E, for instance, even after reconfiguration.

I was having this issue as well - Bodhi uses LXDM for this reason.

So much of this is hard to judge -- I just installed LXDM, and even after a reconfigure and a .conf edit, it showed weird choices -- and it was sucking a whole core of cpu time, cycling back and forth. Had to kill it and go back to lightdm. I actually spent a couple of hours doing that today, going back and forth between DMs. I get beautiful+no-function, okay+some-function and ugly+function. Frustrating, every way...

I guess my point is you might see if elsa works now, with proper configuration (which is beyond me, at this point) -- once you're set with the rest of it, of course. It'd be nice to go all E. I can't get over how attractive it is for a desktop manager.

Have you seen Bodhi's default LXDM theme/setup? It looks fairly nice and it plenty functional.

I haven't. I've been running it off a thumbdrive on my other machine. Don't see the login, there.

I'll see what I can see next time I'm using it.

Really looking forward to the v2.0, so I'm holding off on wiping that machine and installing Bodhi on it. I was also hoping to install it as a touchscreen-friendly frontend for a little OwnCloud and web/file server I just got the hardware for (little 7" Xenarc touchscreen monitor.) Guess I could just install it there, but... hmmm. I'll have to think about it.

I have a huge project starting the end of this month, so maybe I should just bite the bullet. I doubt you'll be ready with the new version before I start, and I probably won't have time next month...

Aloha,

ps: whisper in your friendly E developers' ears about stabilizing elsa...
