Let's hope this means you get more time to work on the iso and less time answering the same question over and over again

Well that FAQ covers the only 2.0 related question I asked lol.

I am curious how stable the unstable version of 2.0 is. Thinking about installing it on the laptop and going with the flow.

Question:

Is 2.0.0 Going to have a PAE only kernel? Kind of kills the small and light thing a bit. If I may make a suggestion, move to the Lubuntu Kernel.

The current plan is to use the default Ubuntu kernel builds. That is what we have always done.

A PAE kernel does not cause a system to run any slower than a non-PAE kernel. Users have always suggested this, but they have yet to ever provide me with cold hard numbers proving the fact.

Jeff, I know the old saying, "It will be ready when it's ready", but, any hint to when 2.0.0 will be ready? :)

Maybe I should know better than to ask, but I couldnt help myself. :(

I can hardly wait. And many thanks for a fine distro!

At this point I am waiting on a small bug in E17 to be fixed before I ship out the release as "stable". The E devs aren't showing much interest in getting it resolved though - so I might end up sending it out with startup applications working on the LiveCD.

Startup applications do not work for the live user.

With Bodhi being one of the main showcases of E, one would think they might show a bit more interest.

I guess it depends how long it's been logged and what a realistic time fix is.

All I know is that the waiting is killing me!

Let's say I install the Alpha of bodhi 2.0 now, is there any need to reinstall the whole thing again once the release version comes out or can I just upgrade && dist-upgrade and that solves the problem

Oh and one other question: "the goal is for Bodhi to become a true rolling-release distribution that never needs reinstallation." -> Are there any schedules yet on when to expect this?

That is currently just a dream. It will NOT be possible as long as we are based on something Ubuntu.

You could always do a Gentoo based Bodhi. I ran E17 years ago in Gentoo, but it was really buggy back then. Gentoo would be a great platform for a rolling release.

Never going to happen. Gentoo isn't very user accessible no matter how you cut it compared to Debian based things.

A pure debian base maybe... But Ubuntu would have to go way off track to push us to that.

Jeff I agree with you a pure debian is a good idea but maybe archlinux is better then;
Archlinux is a very good roller release and is very easy to configure it.

tks

You almost made me spit up my drink there. While I will agree Arch is super fast and bleeding edge - it is far from easy to configure. In fact installing it for the first time normally involves digging through wikis.

I'll second that. I found installing Arch too much like archeology.

A PAE kernel stops me from running a distro targeted at older hardware on my older hardware which doesnt support PAE (Pentium M 2.1GHz, 2gb ram)
