Well, that's the problem. You install dualboot with windows xp and the partition gets damaged. I mean not only the windows boot because FIXBOOT and FIXMBR does nothing to repair boot. The partition was active and boot flag was correct and could see the files in it but could not boot windows again. If you try to configure grub (sudo update-grub) there's no windows parittion. An installer problem or grub?

Did you use automatic partitioning, or do it manually? It's been known for a while that Ubiquity has a tendency to screw everything up with the automatic partitioning when there's other operating systems installed... it's fine if you want it to take over the whole drive, but if you want to share space with other systems you're better off doing it manually.

There is already a launchpad bug on the upstream provider of Ubiquity... it's been there for a couple of years now.

Same here only it was triple boot with win xp and bodhi1.4. No issues installing bodhi 2.0 64 bit.

Yea honestly never trust an automated system to do your partitioning. Ubiquity is the best thing out there, but it can only do some much - there are SO many variables that can go into partitions it is hard to account for all of them.

Hi,

Grub/ubiquitiy is a mbr "crusher"? :( Maybe search for a boot on CD (xp, win2000) and repair files system options or something like that, to crushback Grub ?

I let XP boot silently & ask for grub after by boot.ini (have a look here if you're interest)(it's a french link, :( ,sorry)

Good luck

Thanks for your answers.
Actually i always use manual partitioning.
You see, i had a previous linux installation so i had this windows partition and swap-root-home partitions. The problem arose when i installed the latest bodhi alpha. Everything was ok, there was no installer error or something, it just failed to install grub and i lost my windows boot. I did an sudo update-grub and there was no windows partition. Used parted magic to check boot flags, no luck. Just fired windows cd to do a fixboot and fixmbr but nothing. It was a damaged windows partition. What went wrong? don't know but it was working ok after bodhi installation so maybe.. buntu's installer?
I'll try the RC next.

You should be aware that when editing partitions there is always a chance data can become corrupted/damaged.

Do you have 2 hard drives? The recent Ubuntu installers try to install grub to the second hard disk by default. There is a small window at the bottom of the partitioning screen, in manual mode of course, where you can choose which HD gets grub installed. Note that the default is sdb if you have 2 hard drives, not sda. Try to run the install again with attention to this part of the partitioner. Make it sda and you should be good, if you have not made other changes to sda trying to fix it.

I am also experiencing the same problem here, after installing bodhi 2.0.1 today, grub bootstrap interface disappeared , I clearly remember I have installed MBR at /sda, after reboot, I can not see the grub interface at all, total darkness for about 8 seconds, then bodhi appears, the formally dual boot Arch Linux can not be booted as usual.
I have checked the md5sum of bodhi 2.0.1 image, it is correct.
Problem has been solved ! I use "update-grub" fix it. Grub now works! thank you MacLone for this trick, don't know if you are still suffering the same problem now.
