Hi, folks,

There's a couple of missing deps (which I think is by design) in 2.0 that prevent you from being able to access networked resources (NFS, FTP, Samba, and a few others) from pcmanfm out of the box. If, like me, you're happy enough with pcmanfm and don't want to install extra software to handle this type of connectivity, then you'll find a couple of missing deps quite handy... Install them, and you will be able to connect to these resources without needing to install extra software. Doesn't even require a reboot or logging out. :)

Open up Terminology, and type:
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install fuse-utils gvfs-backends

Give it your password, and let it install. If you prefer to install from synaptic, the package names are "fuse-utils" and "gvfs-backends". With them installed, you should be able to continue using pcmanfm to connect to networked resources. :) Just put the protocol type and the resource address in the location bar, for example "smb://my-server/my-share" or "ftp://user:password@my-server.com"

Cheers,
Tara

Work like a charm, thanks a lot!! :D
Btw, how can you figure out which packages are missing? For me you just made some magic tricks, I want to learn some :P

Tara,

Thanks for this information.

One additional point after some trial and error, my server names seem to be case insensitive, but my share names are case sensitive. On the Other Hand, I am sharing from a Mac over Apple's implementation of CIFS. Therefore this maybe only of use for those who have to share with Macs.
