Since upgrading yesterday, I'm getting LOTS of segv / restart errors. I have an engage bar (no background box, auto hide) at bottom of my screen. As I mouse across, enlightnment fails about 1 time out of 4. I use openGL X11 rendering for composite and elementary with nvidia graphics driver installed. Is there something I need to change?

I've written about this also. After reading about the engage bar, I realize that is when I get the SEGV errors also. Maybe less that 1 out of 4 times. I have the fancy profile setup rebuilt after I deleted the .e directory after the upgrade. I wondering if it is a pointer issue, and I should just delete and rebuild the whole engage bar from scratch. When I setup the profile, it left the file manager and terminal apps in the engage.

What is your error message dumped by e? I think I have the same error. Most often it happens while clicking on an icon (immediately), but it happens just by cruising around with the pointer, too. Think it happens more often while clicking on dolphin/e-file-manager-icons than on the thunar-icon. I also use openGL and have deactivated the mouse over animation.

In every case it looks like that, only differing in the numbers:

when you switch off animation, do you get any SEGVs?

By writing animation you mean sizing of the icons, right? Indeed, I'm not able to produce this error with fixed still icons. I only got one - while auto-hide became active and all icons moved ...

Well, will use ibar for some time. But I like engage a bit more ... especially because of auto-hide to full screen windows and sizing of the hovered icons.

Oh, and there are strange things going on after that error. E. g. the engage bar often only recovers when calling the menu by clicking left mouse button and getting the desktop menu. And right now after my last crash the e-file-manager didn't start ... But as soon as I called the menu on the desktop all e-file-manger-windows were appearing immediately. Don't know, if that helps, probably not ...

I find that using Software setting for the Composite Engine instead of OpenGL makes recovering from the SEGV errors more resilient. You take the hit on speed and performance, but it seems to not happen as often and recovering seems flawless. Hopefully, the e17 team can fix the issue with the next release.
