Just to reiterate:

I am testing Bodhi using the English language and with a US keyboard. I don't speak another language and I don't own another keyboard. If someone else wants to debug these issues and provide solutions for me to implement I am more than happy to.

Worst case, I'll hack the Ubuntu installer to force settings that work every time. Sorry I can't debug other languages, but I've already got my plate pretty full without learning to speak 40 other languages.

~Jeff

A big thank you to everyone who contributes to Bodhi Linux

What langauge/keyboard settings are you selecting when you are getting this crash? The installer works fine in the latest virtual box version.

I am glad to meet Bodhi and you. I registered to do this report.

I crashed to install 3.0.0 Alpha with .iso file from VirtualBox.
And I got the correspondence to install without a problem.

I am a Japanese. Therefore I choose "日本語"(Japanese) as the beginning of the installer as a language.
In this case the installer crashed on the way.
I tried it with a language as "English" from the information of the forum.
This was able to end installation in a correct answer normally.
By the way, it was normal even if an area and the setting of the keyboard did not change it.

When an installer chooses a language except English, it crashes.

I'd just like to re-echo in this thread:

Unless someone who can utilize another language can debug/solve this it will not get fixed

Did a VB install, starting from Terminology, command: esudo ubiquity

Step 1: Choosing language: Nederlands (Dutch)
Step 2: requirements: all OK, choosing no-updates, no non-free-stuff
Step 3: Install Choices: Wipe whole disk and install now (something else seems not to be possible in a VM)
Step 4: Choosing Time Zone (Europe, Amsterdam)
Step 5: Keyboard lay-out: changed to US - no_dead_keys
Step 6: giving username and password
Step 7: Bodhi Slideshow appears and installation starts
After completion (3 minutes) there was nothing reported in terminal.I did a reboot and all is well.

As I can't reproduce the issues I can't debug.

Charles.

PS. I'm willing to try French, German or Spanish if you insist.

Charles - can you try launching the installer via the desktop icon and see if it still completes successfully for you?

Tried the French language this time.

After 3/4 of the install i got an error from ubiquity telling me the install failed and I can submit a bugreport. See screenshot.

I closed that popup and the installer closed itself immediately.
Next I got an enlightenment error popup saying:
An exit code of 1 was returned from sudo ubiquity gtk_ui
There were no further specifics in the logfile.

The launcher uses the addition gtk_ui that I did not use in the terminal command , but it's hard to believe that this makes a difference.

I will now try to install from terminal (without gtk-ui) using French language again.

Charles.

Anyone believing this?
Opened terminology and gave "sudo ubiquity". The installer opened and after confirming my previous choices (from the failed install, still highlighted) it continued where it had stopped, resulting in a completed installation.

Hope this tells you something, I'm stunned myself.

Did an other install in a VM, Dutch again, now using the launcher on the desktop. Same settings as before, it installed without issues. I've really no idea what is going on.

Charles.

PS. If you want me to test something specific, just tell me.

Desktop launcher failed for me too.
Also after restarting and switching the language back to English it mixed languages up, eg labeled buttons in English and German.
I assume it fails to properly clean its temporary settings.
