[SOLVED]Keybinding is entering characters instead
10 December 2012 - 07:18 PM
With the open nvidia drivers, I was able to attach CTL-ALT-DownArrow to Toggle Shade Bottom but those drivers always caused my world clocks to crash. So I went ahead and used nvidia-installer (as I've always done) and my desktop can now pan and keep those world clocks stable. But something went wrong with the keybinding; it's entering characters instead of shading down. Not random characters, but the same 8~] ones. I've even tried CTL-ALT-End but it just gave me a different set of characters. This is on a urxvt-256color terminal. Any nvidia user out there, seeing the same problem? Or any ideas would be welcome...
EDIT: Couple of shutdowns and things are back to normal again. Even firefox shades the same way now. When the dist-upgrade comes, we'll see... -

Download and run at twice the speed for that smoother viewing experience (recording it must have challenged the CPU somewhat).

[SOLVED] Lost the desktop
24 November 2012 - 03:16 PM
I attempted to 'freshen' my Bodhi 2.0 based on the wiki instructions. Using apt-get update and apt-get upgrade, it proceeded on its merry way. Some notes: I chose not to upgrade grub nor lxdm as my custom version can boot to either 2.0 or 1.4 Bodhi, and my lxdm already is set up with autologin and its own screen. I believe there was an upgrade to nvidia as well but the screen scrolled up before I could make note of what it actually did. I had already updated to the binary blob before all this, using Bodhi's installer without any hitch. I had also renamed my .e to .e_old, hoping that I can get the new default theme.
Now it can't get to the GUI desktop. The last thing that the boot shows is a list of all media (/dev/sda1 /dev/sda5 etc) then it hangs, till I force power off (but it's a graceful shutdown). At least I can boot to Bodhi 1.4.
I am inclined to think that NOT updating lxdm is one suspect, although the nvidia blob could be another (if it were replaced). Question is, how would I get back my desktop. Can I get my network setup even without the GUI? Should I wait for the upcoming Bodhi release or the end of the world whichever comes first? -
