  1. In Topic: black screen

    29 May 2013 - 01:30 AM

had this issue many times, especially with Violetland back when it still worked.
The lazy solution is to reboot. ctrl-alt-end will reload enlightenment but im not confident that that fixed it.
the real solution i do not know.

EDIT: my mistake. In mine it would just stay stuck at 800x600 until I rebooted, not black screen.
  2. In Topic: Stuck at 'Preparing to Install Bohdi' screen

    29 May 2013 - 12:13 AM

Hanging at screen no. 2 "Preparing to Install" 'this works best if your computer has at least 2.6 G free space and [x] connected to the internet.

I had it hang at a later screen at first, but after I got the wifi on on, killed ubiquity, and reloaded it started hanging at that one. (after a reboot) Through some combination of restarting installer [ubiquity] starting and stopping wifi, and also before starting ubiquity 'sudo umount /dev/sdax' for all sdax (in Terminal/Terminology) I mysteriously got it to run.

Earlier it had been hanging on trying to automatically umount the partitions. Also I have a windows readable USB drive plugged in.

Network is WiPi adapter. Couldn't get it to run earlier on the neighboring studio's wifi, but have through some black magic got it to run on my Android cellphone tehering.

Still downloading packages for 61 minutes, but were looking okay.

Ubiquity identifies the WiPi adapter as "Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter", and I don't have the option of a wired connection or a different wifi adapter at the moment.

EDIT: Running about 14~ kB per second on a cellphone that runs about 3 mB per second on a Mac, btw. Also very annoying not to be able to expand the terminal part of the ubiquity window. The last was also an issue with Mint Linux earlier.

EDIT2: now that it is finally installed, synaptic was quite slow with the database update, but got there. When it came to the actual download of packages it got up to 2808 kB/s (on the cellphone, which says it is in a 4G zone) before stopping. Would not start again until I restarted synaptic, at which point it went up to 9209 B/s and stalled right away almost. Stalling on libc6 if that means anything. It is now up to 8762 B/s. I also thought it was going to get all updates during install. Anyway I'm sure I'll eventually get something sorted out, but non-techies and n00bs will not be so patient. And back to 14 kB/s. And now broken windows.

EDIT3: Similar issue with installed Mint Linux and cellphone/WiPi. Works fine with wifi router next door though. Have not tried Bodhi with next door router since install completed.
  3. In Topic: Jack server is not running or cannot be started

In my experience Jack and all of the 'under the hood' part of linux/music has been sort of occult, (in my experience). You really have to know your <redacted> from a p/n gate or a synapse to make it do what you say.
  4. In Topic: Wlan on my EeePC 901

A guy I talked to in IRC the other day had wireless issues. He solved it by switching his router to TKIP + AES encryption. Alternately turning TKIP off may be an option. Depending on your router options may be different. Whether this is due to non-standard implementation in Linux or in the router or bugginess is unknown to me, but I remember having more of this type of issues a few years back and generally reducing the complexity of the wireless connection could fix many cases. WEP would almost certainly work, but it is weak, weak weak, so try changing the WPA encryption types.
  5. In Topic: [solved] Can't Enlarge Window

I was playing Doom, and it messed up my screen resolution. I managed to get my resolution back, but all my open windows were now sized extra small. The rest of them I just grabbed the edges of the windows and resized them, but Claws Mail won't let me do this, and the window remains tiny even after a reboot. I've tried changing themes but no luck. Any suggestions?

Don't know the real answer, but you could try restaring enlightenment (in the menu, or ctrl-alt-end)
