XnViewMP beginners' guide

11 November 2017 - 10:26 AM

XnViewMP is photo software with an interface similar to Faststone (for Windows), but more powerful. It is available for all platforms, including Ubuntu. For those who are using it, or thinking of trying it, I've written a beginners' guide, which you can get either via the XnViewMP forum (https://newsgroup.xn...hp?f=82&t=36600) or directly here: https://www.xnview.c...r Beginners.pdf

Bodhi 4.2.1 Legacy - Startup command no longer works

12 September 2017 - 04:16 PM

I've just installed Bodhi 4.2.1 Legacy on an old computer. Everything works fine except for a startup command I've always used before on Bodhi to turn off the touchpad: synclient TouchpadOff=1. It generates an error message when I boot up or reset Moksha, and I have to execute the command manually to turn off the touchpad.

Any clues as to why I'm having this problem? Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

An easy way to install MS OneDrive

06 July 2017 - 12:42 PM

I've just added the OneDrive app from the Chrome Store to my Chromium browser, and it works a treat - I can now access my MS OneDrive, with all its files. It works much better than my previous attempt to access OneDrive from Linux (using complicated instructions gleaned from the Web), and all with a single click!

There are limitations, though - primarily you can't sync your OneDrive with a folder on your PC.

I've also added Word Online, Excel Online, and PowerPoint Online (all free), but I doubt I'll use them - I prefer to use WPS Office straight from my hard disk.

An easy way to install Google Earth

05 July 2017 - 02:12 PM

I've recently installed the Chromium browser from the AppCenter, partly as a way to explore some of the extensions and apps available in Google's Chrome store. One of the apps I've added is "Map of the Earth", which is a Google Earth plug-in. It works fine - I've now got Google Earth running within Chromium, achieved with a single click!

Checkboxes sometimes invisible in Firefox with BodhiForum theme

13 April 2017 - 11:58 AM

I'm using Bodhi 4 64-bit with the Forum theme. Running Firefox, the checkboxes on some web pages are invisible. The problem seems to lie with the BodhiForum GTK application theme, as I can make the checkboxes visible by switching to e.g. the Default application theme. (Note that I don't have this problem with Midori, but I much prefer Firefox.)

Does anyone have a solution to this problem? Thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.
