for what it is worth   HP always says they do not support linux.  never a help.  also the people here did help me out all of the time.  there are some here i trust explicitly.  I have gotten 4 laptops to work beautifully with Bodhi with their help!  also - one does need to refresh the list in synaptic.  i find that i have to do it more recently than earlier on in my synaptic/linux experience for some reason.

In Topic: Error message when trying to reboot or power off after system update

Ok thanks - just wanted to know.

another follow up dumb question.  if i were to have done that - there would not be any issues if i didn't need to do that - correct?  there is no way anything could become screwed up?

i do not believe so logically - but i have to ask.

there are issues with system updater it appears.  someone more knowledgeable will chime in i am sure.

use terminal and do:

sudo apt-get update

and then do: sudo apt-get dist-upgrade

hit y for yes re: disk space when it asks.

all should be good.

also - before installing - i always tried a slow live cd to see how the trackpad works ad its' related issues as well as getting wireless.  if those work i then install.  ( i also had printer issues with various linux distros and related printers.  the current hp wireless seems to work after a tweak or two.
