acpi problems on old laptop

18 April 2017 - 05:17 PM

I'm trying to install bodhi on an old dell inspiron 710m laptop.  Booting a legacy live version from a usb stick makes the laptop go into suspend mode every few seconds.  Finally got it working with acpi=off setting in grub.  However, the screen defaults to a resolution of 1024x768.  How can I change the resolution to the native 1280x800? I really like this Bodhi linux distro but need help with this please.  I tried setting a new mode with xrandr but ran up the "failed to get the size of gamma ..." error.
