  1. Not sure if we are talking about the same thing, but I regularly get a black screen after login and/or F1 recover option (Enlightenment caused Segment Violation (Segfault)). It happened with the previous version of Bodhi and now this 12.04 LTS one. Sometimes F1 works to recover, other times not. It's just a thing I've learnt to live with as I think it must be my hardware combination. Probably happens 20% of the time I boot. To resolve I drop to a terminal CTL-ALT-F1 and type @bodhi32:~$ ps -A | grep -i xorg 1304 tty7 00:02:00 Xorg then sudo kill -9 1304 The process number 1304 varies between reboots... That'll re-load the login screen and then it logs me in ok.

    Battery icon / acpi problem

OK point taken - just trying to help... Maybe not strictly correct for the PPA, but that method works fine for me and others, so I thought it was worth sharing.

    Battery icon / acpi problem

OH - well I'm all out of ideas - sorry. As Elw3 says, try another kernel. I'm using the latest and greatest v3.9.6 without issues. Look here and choose a favour... http://kernel.ubuntu.com/~kernel-ppa/mainline/ For my 32bit system I download the all.deb then the two i386.debs. To install I did this; sudo dpkg -i "linux-headers...all.deb" sudo dpkg -i "linux-headers...i386.deb" sudo dpkg -i "linux-image...i386.deb" Some of the pre- v3.8 kernels have a 4th step to download and install the extras.deb listed with seems to have the drivers for the network etc. Anyhow I'm not sure how comfortable you are messing with new kernels. /Own risk blah blah blah - could break warning ;-)

    Battery icon / acpi problem

I'm not 100% sure but I recall having to do this Edit Grub File for acpi to either get the backlight or battery % to work on my ASUS netbook. Anyhow worth a go adding the acpi_osi=Linux entry.
  5. I installed Viber Desktop for Windows in a Wine session and it works fine logged into the desktop. I can SSH into my Bodhi pc and run X11 apps like Firefox etc no problem. I can run 'wine notepad' no problem. However I cannot run 'wine viber' from the terminal on the pc or via SSH. So my question is how do I run wine apps directly from the terminal? I've tried messing with the entries below on a terminal, but I'm not quite getting it. Can anyone help on this? Thanks Dan [Desktop Entry] Name=Viber Exec=env WINEPREFIX="/home/dan/.wine" wine C:\\\\windows\\\\command\\\\start.exe /Unix /home/dan/.wine/dosdevices/c:/users/dan/Start\\ Menu/Programs/Viber.lnk Type=Application StartupNotify=true Comment=Viber - Connect, Freely. xrdp

I can vnc to my bodhi install no problem. I was looking at xrdp but it doesn't work - I get a grey screen when it loads. It's not an important thing but I'd thought I'd mess about with it. I understand it might be due to this entry in the startwm.sh it runs. . /etc/X11/Xsession Can that be changed to another window manager command (? - my understanding of these things is limited), so that it runs? Thanks Dan

    E 0.17.3 Segfaulting on RPI

Sometimes when I login I get the F1/F2 error message. 50% of the time pressing F1 works and it will recover. Other times I get a blank screen with just the mouse pointer on login... To fix it I press CTL-ALT-F1 to get a terminal text login. I then login as my user. Then I type ps -A | grep -i xorg it'll give a result as below 1204 tty7 00:02:30 Xorg then I type sudo kill -9 XXXX (where XXXX is the number on the left of the entry for xorg - in this case 1204). It'll then drop back to a login prompt (You may have to press CTL-ALT-F7). There may be better/easier ways of recovering from a blank screen with only the mouse pointer, but I'm not aware of them.

OK - I'll give that a go. Thanks

    LibreOffice Update Error

Just noticed this error. Any idea how to fix? Preparing to replace libreoffice 1:3.6.0bodhi2 (using .../libreoffice_1%3a4.0.0bodhi1_all.deb) ... Some Elementary Themes in the Repo

Thanks. I removed the one installed then ran update/upgrade and it installed without errors. I probably should have thought of doing that before I posted. But then I can't be the only one to see this!

    Bodhi in the News

OK fair enough, I take your point on the 'normal' user. File roller's GUI leaves a lot to be desired. Ark presents the archive folder structure as per my preferred FM - Dolphin - not sure of the term but it indents the files below the dir with a click of the arrowhead as Dolphin does in the files view panel. File roller won't drag and drop into Dolphin anyhow. Dan

    Bodhi in the News

He does raise two very good points though. 1. You *shouldn't* have to "sudo dpkg -i /path/to/file/name.deb. This isn't something the normal user does. Deb files should be recognised and the gdebi app loaded to install them. It really should be added as part of the build. 2. The bundled zip/tar extractor is indeed rubbish. You can't drag a file from it to a file manager (something you can do on all other archive/zip apps I have used). It also prompts with that annoying dialogue box every time. The best app for this is for me Ark. Sure it's a KDE app so it's not going to be added as part of the build but.... Regards Dan

    Bodhi 2.2.0 Released

Thanks. I'd already done that but wanted to try out the 3.7 kernel. I've had to go back to 3.5 on both my laptops as both 3.7.0-4 and 3.7.0-7 completely crash for me at random times, requiring a full power button press....

    [SOLVED]Forecasts module is broken

Thanks... I thought I had it installed as my quick search in Synaptics didn't find it not installed.... My PC at work has it so that also lead to the confusion.....
