  1. synaptic

So everything I have on my pc has to be saved elsewhere and a complete install done again?? What about my system settings? (ie settings of RT kernel, swappiness, performance, etc...) All of those will be lost with a totally new install, won't they? This doesn't sound good at all... brian
  2. synaptic

Yes. So is my box now at version 3? I was under the impression there would be big package upgrades on the way... brian
  3. synaptic

Hi all, sorry for the delay. I hashed out the offending repository and the update && upgrade && dist-upgrade went well (I think). That is, a few packages were upgraded and a few extra lines were put out: Processing triggers for man-db ... Setting up comerr-dev (2.1-1.42-1ubuntu2.2) ... Setting up libwbclient0 (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.12) ... Setting up libsmbclient (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.12) ... Setting up ca-certificates (20141019ubuntu0.12.04.1) ... Updating certificates in /etc/ssl/certs... 17 added, 8 removed; done. Running hooks in /etc/ca-certificates/update.d.... Setting up samba-common (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.12) ... Setting up smbclient (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.12) ... Setting up samba-common-bin (2:3.6.3-2ubuntu2.12) ... Processing triggers for libc-bin ... ldconfig deferred processing now taking place Does this indicate that the upgrade was done? (I was under the impression that an upgrade was a bit more lengthy..) brian

Hi all, I too wasn't able to do a dist-upgrade (on both a laptop and desktop), and a couple of repos weren't available, as mentioned above. I was able to upgrade some packages, but not a dist-upgrade. brian
  5. Doing a full system backup

Hi everyone, as I'm really happy with how Bodhi is performing on my laptop, and as I've made lots of special tweaks to get it to high-performance for audio production.. -is there a good, simple way to make an ISO for future easy installation on other pc's? What about pc's with different hardware specs..? Will I be able to do an installation anyway? brian
  6. Yes.. when I click on Run Everything I see all the apps. Never used that till now. Great! Thanks! brian
  7. Ah ok! I'll just open stuff from the terminal for now, and hope for a fix! Thanks! brian
  8. Hi everyone, using Bodhilinux here daily (both for work and non) and loving it! Since an update yesterday, I noticed that the "Sound and Video" section in the Apps menu doesn't list all the apps, but only through the letter K. (see pic) Any way to fix this? brian
  9. Cannot connect android

Just install gMTP (in terminal type: sudo apt-get install gmtp ) and you'll be able to connect to your Android device! After installing, just type gmtp in the terminal and the GUI window will open, and you can transfer files! Great! (found in the Bodhi Doc Wiki under "hardware.") brian
  10. Booting inconsistency

Hi Sitting Fox, thank you for responding. I had to reboot twice this morning and I still am not able to log in yet, so I'm going to do a new install, and see what happens... brian
  11. Booting inconsistency

Hi everyone, I recently installed Bodhi 2.4.0 (note: on the live CD the installation icon reads "12.4", which I imagine is incorrect, no?) on a Acer Extensa 5635Z, and all is going fine. Except, that occasionally the booting procedure never reaches the log-in screen (that is, just after the bodhi splash screen goes off). The only way to remediate seems to be to force a shutdown and restart. Any thoughts? Should I do a new installation? Is there an error in GRUB? Thanks! brian
  12. Rebooting error

Hello everyone, I have Bodhi installed on several PCs including this one, a bit old (maybe from 2002?). The Bodhi version is quite new, updated nonetheless. But in the last few days, while doing normal browsing with Firefox, the computer suddenly reboots! Is there a way to find out what is causing this? There is never a crash window or anything, so I don't know where to look first. Is it a hardware issue perhaps? Thanks! brian
  13. Not able to log in

Well, after some testing, I learned that indeed it was the resolution setting that for some reason was off. I never made the change to the grub menu resolution setting as recommended on another site regarding when the screen setting is "out of range," but I learned that, after the black screen with the white cursor in the upper left hand corner during booting, when the monitor gives the "out of range" indication, then I just hit Tab and Return and it continued the log in normally!!!! So I guess this is a "solution" to the problem, but I'd still be curious to know why it worked, and what I should change so that I don't need to do that at every log-in. Any thoughts? brian
  14. Not able to log in

Yes, the live CD (Bodhi) works. But nothing that I know of was installed or removed. brian
  15. Not able to log in

Hello! I installed Bodhi (latest 32-bit version) on a friend's desktop pc back in December. All was working fine until today, now I can only get to the BIOS, then when I try to boot the monitor goes off and indicates "signal out of range" or "input not supported." Any suggestions greatly appreciated! brian
