    intermittent wifi..

i was wondering if it was going to sleep. i'll be browsing fine and then i click on a link and nothing happens then get error page, no internet connection. i then try to disconnect the existing wifi connection and it says it is not turned on even though it says networking and wireleness are turned on. and then when i try to turn these on i get a nother error...frustrating. it's a new problem and the only significant issue remaining.

    cannot figure power management

thanks for clarifying and suggesting cpufreq.... it's so nice to finally get this laptop working on bodhi...i've missed bodhi...
  3. i finally got my ux31 asus zenbook working, mostly, but i need to figure out how to enable power savings when not plugged in. i have some screen settings set that will help but i cannot make heads or tails of the power management thing and cant find any docs for it. i simply do not understand how to use that control panel. can someone explain and give me a good starting setup i can work from?

  6. sadly, if i have ethernet plugged in, all it sees is thst. if i unplug that and turn on the wifi with func and f2 the networkingnand wifi module says networking is not enabled. next to enable network is a click box, dunno if that is supposed to be green or orange to signify it is on. either way it just says that networking is not enabled.
  7. good thinking. i managed to get wired network to function and did the big updates. still says bodhi 3.0.0 in the info window for some reason and cannot seem to find the wireless networking hardware in the lsptop. and cannot boot from the bodhi usb 3.1.1 i got from jeff. has anyone got wifi to work on asus zenbook ux31a?
  8. it is just the internal, defsult wifi built into the laptop. if i press func and f2 i can get the light on f2 to light up and that is supposed to say wifi is enabled. sometimes i can get it to see wifi but only sporadically and it cuts off after a few secconds. not long enough to update the system or even browse a single web page. it sees the local wifi nets i have, i select one, it connects then networking turns off
  9. This quest started more than a year ago. Ive got an ASUS Zenbook UX31A and some time ago i minstalled. But then the power jack broke and i shelved it. i finally got it fixed and the compurer works again.... kinda. It's been such a long time i forgot where i was in the install of Bodhi.anaged to get Bodhi 3.0.0 So, BODHI3 is installed but networkingnot working. seems not to be able with rare exceptions to find network device, wifi. so i cannot update the version of bodhi i have and cannot find anyway to force a connection to the wifi adapter built into this laptop. i have a bodhi 3.1.1 usb stick but it will not boot from it for some reason. any ideas on how i might get the usb stick to work would be appreciated, or how to get existing install to recognize integrated internal networking device would be appreciated. this is the closest i have got to a working bodhi system in a very long time and i really want to get this working. thanks, Mark
  10. The HP Spectra looks nicer
  11. I'll check that out. Their smallest one looks the closest to size of her stolen MacBook Air.. but a bit fatter...
  12. Thanks Jeff. She's a teacher of metaqlsmithing at a community college. She is big into photography and uses it as inspiration for her own works. She also turns shapes to outlines for laser etching on organic materials such as bone and mother of pearl. She would likely use Gimp, Blender, photo management app, libre office, mail client, and lotsa browsing. So a good screen with decent processor and ram is critical for her photo work as that is likely to be the most intensive of her uses. She had a Macbook Air but it was stolen last week. She doesn't make much so I am trying to get her something nice. I showed her Bodhi interfaces over ther web and she seems quite excited to try Bodhi and make her machine quite personal. Any suggestions are very much appreciated! Mark
  13. are there particular brands worth focusing on? looks like hp support linux...
  14. It's a hybrid, so can act like a laptop and a tablet. Decent res screen and it is a touch screen. the way it works is that in windows with the hinge open from zero to 180 degrees the keyboard works, after that it is disabled. i have a feeling that might not be supported with linux/ubuntu? Fr4oim what i can find online, yoga 900 wantgs kernel 4.5 or later to make touchscreen etc work
